2nd Annual Conference

27th March 2012, Hanze University Groningen

Industrial Fire Safety Engineering

“unleashed transitions of energy”

This year’s theme of the IFE‐NL conference has a focus on Power Generation and Energy Transition, and the fire risks involved. Goal of this conference is to build a bridge between fire safety engineering and the energy industry. International collaboration and knowledge sharing will lead to increasing critical mass.

Recent examples have shown that industrial fires have a large impact on sustainability and the environment, whilst their impact on life safety is limited (compared to home fires). Building codes and government rules focus on life safety, while other aspects of industrial fire safety are marginally addressed. The market requires performance‐based designs referred to as “the dialogue between competent people” to safeguard property loss and limit environmental impact of fire.

IFE‐NL promotes the knowledge of Fire Safety Engineering and the design of Fire Safety by competent engineers. For the members of IFE‐NL, there will be an Annual General Meeting in the morning, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, a seminar is held in cooperation with Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Engineering.  We invite members of the institution, professionals from the Industry and the Fire Service, students, teachers, and researchers to this seminar.

In the seminar we will introduce renowned speakers who will address Industrial Fire Safety in connection with Power generation and Energy Transition. Our keynote speaker will be Prof. José Torero from the University of Edinburgh, together with speakers from the Industrial and Fire Safety community: Ynso Suurenbroek, Jan Spiekhout, Harrie Munnik and Henk Deuling. After the seminar there will be opportunities to interact with the speakers and with fellow‐professionals.
